The flu invasion

I've been a little MIA from this space because the flu has invaded our house. Will started feeling not too good on Sunday and thought it was strep, but after a quick strep test that came back negative we assumed it was sinus related. Sunday night he was up all night sniffling and uncomfortable due to an achey body which meant that I, too, was up all night. He really isn't a wimp with sickness, I'm just a lighter sleeper now and I couldn't sleep much with all the getting up, not to mention I felt pretty bad for him. Around 4:45 AM, we decided to just get up. Will, sadly, had to go into work, fever/chills and all. He was desperately searching for someone to cover him, but it seemed everyone was working on something else or [obviously] was not awake at 5 AM. I put a kettle of water on for some tea and starred off in space, feeling pretty sorry for myself and my lack of sleep. Fortunately, I did settle in with my devotional [My Utmost for His Hightest] and spent a few sleepy moments offering up my day, or rather, desperately praying that I would have an easy day :)

It started out as "one of those days," where the smallest things happen and you just start to crumble immediately. My students were great and it actually turned into a very easy day of teaching. Will was able to find a replacement around 10 AM and came home and slept most of the day. I got home yesterday afternoon and began cleaning like crazy, hoping to rid our house of these nasty germs [and prevent myself from getting it]. After getting things sanitized, I settled in with a book for a relaxing afternoon. The house was quiet with two nappers [Will & Clyde] and I savored the time.

Its Day 3 of the sickness for Will and at this point he is still sleeping. I'm hoping that when he wakes, he'll be feeling better or at least part of the way there. Thankfully he is off again today. Sickness is no fun, but hopefully we'll be a healthy house again soon!

Just one of those days.

You know when you're just having one of those days? Well, that would be about how my day went. From the moment I woke up, things went awry. Will is filming out of town again this week, Clyde is sick, I got very little sleep last night and every minor task became an extremely frustrating one.

This blog isn't always about good times; I am going to be as honest and real as possible. Lets start with today; it was rough. I'm missing Will like crazy & we are so ready to see this show come to an end. I am desperately craving quality time with him. There are still boxes to be unloaded and I keep remembering things that I am missing (still unsure of what box they could be in). Our poor little kitten is sick & seems to be getting dehydrated by the minute (yet he refuses to drink anything). Oh the list goes on.

The good news is tomorrow is a new day. On days like this, do you ever just want to go to bed early so the day can come to an end? I do. I am going to bed soon. I figure sleep can never hurt. I am praying for a better day tomorrow. I know with a good attitude and a fresh start, it will be. So, for all of you that had one of those days today, just remember that we all do & we have the privilege to start over tomorrow.

Andddd the adventures continue...

We are becoming quite familiar with "in sickness and in health," particularly the "in sickness" part. Will has recovered quickly and I think is pretty much back to himself again. But, our marriage  is an adventure, so soon after Will was feeling better, I began having back pain. For over a week, I was suffering from this pain until I had Will take a look at my back since it felt bruised. He told me there was a large lump to the left of my spine and begged me to go to the doctor the following day.

In short, I've been to two different doctors and both are stumped. No one seems to know what it could be. I was told that it could possibly be a really bad muscle spasm. Thankfully, the pain has gotten significantly better and the lump has disappeared. The doctors want me to get an ultrasound on my back tomorrow just as a precaution, but they anticipate it will come back clear.

Needless to say, Will and I are praying for good health and low medical bills. We are thankful that neither of our issues have been major, and although we do enjoy an adventure, I think we'd be OK with a little bit of normal for a while.

This adventurous marriage.

Yesterday marked one beautiful, crazy month of marriage. We thought the honeymoon was an adventure, but I guess that was just the beginning.

Sunday, Will had an emergency appendectomy. I noticed he wasn't acting himself when he hardly ate his dinner and refused birthday cake on Saturday night. He complained of a stomach ache that night and woke up feeling the same. Since I knew the symptoms from personal experience, I was confident he had an appendicitis. After much convincing, begging and several phone calls to friends for advice, I practically dragged him to the ER. Fortunately the ER was pretty deserted on Sunday morning, so they took us back quickly. Will told me not to tell anyone we were there until it had been confirmed that it was actually something serious. After the CT came back, showing an appendicitis, we called his family and his coworkers. The surgery was fast and he was back in a hospital room in no time. Sadly, they didn't come get me until AFTER the anesthesia had worn completely off. We spent the night on those lovely, comfy beds and by 4:30 am were awake and ready to go home.

He is healing quickly and already hobbling around. Yesterday, he hobbled into my office to bring me flowers for my birthday.

You know, its funny how things work out for good. Will was supposed to be out of town for a few days, including my birthday. Even though hes in pain, we get one week of time together. Dinner together, hanging out with friends together ... this is crazy! We are loving it.

Sorry it took an appendictis to get you a break from work, but I sure am loving all this quality time.

Check out this cute outfit...
